The Addy Sea has become one of Bethany Beach’s most famous landmarks, and is steeped in both history and legend. It was constructed by John M. Addy in 1904, serving initially as a family home, then a vacation home, and finally to the hotel that it is today.

The hotel has the following effects reported: a female apparition has been experienced around the building; unusual light anomalies have been sighted; the sounds of footsteps, organ music and "eerie noises"; cold breezes; lights turn off and on; the smell of perfume; objects suddenly appear; a crisis apparition was reportedly sighted in Room 11.
